After extolling the virtues in post after post of UNC’s computer based training as a wonderful resource that’s free to every student, the University announced today that it would be shutting the site down on Feb. 28.
The move was done “in order to achieve the level of budget cuts currently mandated.”
The full announcement and address to send letters after the jump.
Computer-based training, which has served Carolina in its current form
since June 2005, will cease service on February 28 when its current
license expires. The decision not to renew the license for this service
was a difficult one, but necessary in order to achieve the level of budget
cuts currently mandated.
We understand that the loss of computer-based training will particularly
impact you as a subscriber. We regret that this valuable service that has
contributed to your lifelong learning and development will no longer be
available. Please note that computer-based training will remain available
to you until the end of February, and we encourage you to continue using
the service until that point.
To mitigate this loss, we are researching other resources that may be
accessible on a no-cost or low cost basis. Information about alternative
IT learning opportunities will be available on https://learnit.unc.edu in
the near future.
